The University of Nairobi, Department of Public Health, Pharmacology & Toxicology (PHPT) contracted by the Ministry of Livestock Development to undertake a consultancy to analyse for levels of heavy metals, drug and pesticide residues and aflatoxin M1 in camel milk in order to determine the safety of the milk for human consumption.

Participants display a certificate of participation  presented to them by the Minister of LivestockThe FAO sponsored meat inspectors training program for the first group of trainees in Somaliland was officially closed on 17th February 2013 in a colourful ceremony presided over by the Somaliland Minister of Livetsock.

UoN partners with FAO to train meat inspectors in Somaliland and Puntland

FAO has partnered with the University of Nairobi, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine to train meat inspectors in Somaliland and Puntland. The training which started on November 3, 2012 is being implemented by the Department of Public Health, Pharmacology and Toxicology and is undertaken by lecturers drawn from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. Twenty four participants are attending the training at IGAD Sheikh Technical Veterinary School in Somaliland, while  20 participants are attending training in Garowe, Puntland. The training is expected to end on 28th February 2013 and upon successful completion of  the the course, participants will be awarded a
