Work Study Programme


The department of Public Health Pharmacology and Toxicology calls for application for continuing
PhD students registered at the department for work study program. This is supported by the
University of Nairobi Guidelines for student’s work-study-program. The applicants should be able to
commit up to one third of their time giving tutorials and teaching for undergraduate classes and
practical for Postgraduate students. Application should reach the department by 20/7/2024.

Teaching period: 4th March 2024- 31st May 2024

MOHERE 2023 SYMPOSIUM THE 2023 GLOBAL ONE HEALTH INITIATIVE (GOHI) SYMPOSIUM

THE 2023 GLOBAL ONE HEALTH INITIATIVE (GOHI) SYMPOSIUM.

The 2023 GOHI symposium hosted by the Kenya Medical Research Institute(KEMRI) was held on November 2nd -3rd 2023, in Nairobi Kenya at  the Weston Hotel. The symposium brought on board stakeholders from different organizations including:

  • Kenya Medical Research Institute(KEMRI)
  • The Ohio State University.
  • Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
  • University of Nairobi
  • ICIPE
  • ILRI
  • University of Gondar
  • CGIAR

The main theme of the Symposium was “Addressing Complex One Health Challenges”. Different sub- themes were discussed during the 2 day symposium, they included:

  • Emerging Zoonotic, Food , Water and Vector-borne challenges.
  • Antimicrobial Resistance- The silent pandemic and pathogens of public significance.
  • Climate Change, Changing Ecosystems and Health.
  • Interaction between Communicable and Non- Communicable Diseases.
  • Data Science, AI-ML for prediction and modelling of disease outbreak.
  • Workforce development and gender equity.

Plenary Speakers from different countries and different organizations gave presentations on various topics, they also had sessions for answering any questions that came up. Global one Health, Need for Research, Disease Causative agents, Veterinary Medicine, Climate Change, Data Science, Application of One Health and Future plans for Sustainable partnerships in Global one Health were some of the topics discussed by the various speakers.

The symposium gave a great opportunity for the MOHERE learners to network with people from other organizations and countries. It also brought more comprehension about the aspect of “Global One Health”.

Successful scholarship applicants for the Masters of Science in One Health and Emergency Research Ethics (MOHERE) and Postgraduate Diploma in One Health and Emergency Research Ethics (POHERE) were selected and Contacted.

REGISTRATION

1. Virtual registration: This process is ongoing and is being facilitated by Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Accountant. After which students will be able to: (i).  receive a registration number, and (ii). Upload all required registration documents.

 

2. Face to face registration: This will take place on September, 25th, 2023 at Chiromo campus, where all first years will be registered. Students will be able to register for Semester I courses on student management information system (SMIS) during this time.

 

ICT TRAINING WEEK

All MOHERE and POHERE learners will be expected to attend a virtual ICT Training that will take place between 2nd October and 6th October from 2:00p.m each day. The training will equip learners with various skills of handling the mtihani platform among other ICT issues that they are likely to experience.

COMMENCING OF CLASSES

All Classes for the MOHERE Students both MSc and PGD begin on 9th October 2023.

PHPT Building New Programs MOHERE and POHERE

Master of Science in One Health and Emergency Research Ethics (MOHERE) and Postgraduate Diploma in One Health and Emergency Research Ethics (POHERE) Program.

The Master of Science in One Health and Emergency Research Ethics (MOHERE) program is an international joint initiative of the University of Nairobi, The Ohio State University and the Kenya Medical Research Institute.

The program delivers a one-year postgraduate diploma (PGD) and 2-year Master of Science (MSc) in Research Ethics focused on both One Health research and research in emergency settings. The program’s aims are two-fold:

(1) To strengthen the international health research ethics training capacity at the University of Nairobi and Kenya with a focus on One Health research and research in emergency settings; and

(2) To establish a master’s-level program in international health research ethics with a focus on One Health research and emergency research. A cadre of health professionals will develop expertise in research ethics for One Health so that health research is conducted ethically and in culturally-relevant ways for participant communities in Kenya.

Webinar June 2023 Webinar on Risk Assessment and Zoonotic diseases in Kenya

The Department of Public Health Pharmacology & Toxicology invites you to the above webinar to be held on Wednesday, 21st 2023 from 14:00-15:00 hrs.

Speaker: Dr. Nanyingi Mark, a Public Health Epidemiologist and One Health Officer in the Emergency Preparedness and Response (EPR) Program at World Health Organization (Kenya).

 The webinar will focus on risk assessment of priority zoonotic diseases in Kenya: operationalization of one health, one health priority areas, joint risk assessment, management, communication and community engagement: Post Covid 19.
