MOHERE STUDENTS ACADEMIC TRIP AT THE COAST-MOMBASA

Department of PHPT every year organizes an Academic Trip for postgarduate students on completion of first semester in year one of their study. This helps to expose the students to various private organizatios, Research Institutions, County and National government offices where they can undertake Research Projects or identify scientific gaps that may lead to a research question to be undertaken during second year of study. This also gives the students insight on available opportunities in the world of science as they interact with experts in the various fields of research and adminstration.

ACADEMIC TRIP

MOHERE students privileged to visit different places during the academic trip held between 19th- 24th February 2024 at the Coastal Region of Kenya . Some of the places they visited includes:

· Fort Jesus

· Mwakirunge Dumpsite

· Bamburi Haller Park

· KEMRI Wellcome Trust- Kilifi

· CDC Ganjoni Clinic

· Nile Crocodile Farm- Kikambala

· Moroto Slum

· Arabuko Sokoke Forest

· Watamu Snake Park.

· Watamu Marine Park

 The cohort had the opportunity to learn and interact with experts from vaious organizations visited on:

1.      Environmental Ethics

2.      Human Ethics

3.      Animal Ethics

4.      Research

The 5 day long tour was vital since it made the students:

· Understand ways of Building Sustainable Research Capacity.

· Learnt on how Public health officers takes care of the environment health, animal and human health at large for coexistence.

· Understand how various organizations give back to the society.

· Learn the importance of various plants and animals to the ecosystem.

· Have a deeper understanding of the Fort Jesus tourist attraction site.

· Appreciate marine life, their importance and various ways of conservation.

· Witness snake venom Harvesting.
