Dónal O’Mathúna, BSc(Pharm), MA, PhD, is Associate Professor at The Ohio State University’s (OSU) College of Nursing and Associate Director for Research at the OSU Center for Bioethics (omathuna.6@osu.edu) in Columbus, Ohio, USA. His research addresses ethics during disasters and humanitarian crises, particularly research ethics. He is the Principal Investigator of a 5-year project funded by the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) to develop and implement the MSc in One Health and Emergency Research Ethics (MOHERE) Program, a joint initiative with the University of Nairobi, Kenya and Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI). During COVID-19, he conducted research into moral distress and moral injury in nurses, and on the ethics of how evidence informs policy and practice during pandemics. He is a member of the Research Ethics Review Committee of the World Health Organization and of the scarce resource allocation committee at the OSU Wexner Medical Center. He has contributed to ethics initiatives with WHO, UNICEF and other international organizations, authored numerous peer-reviewed articles and co-edited several books (https://nursing.osu.edu/faculty-and-staff/donal-p-omathuna).
Dónal is also the Director of the OSU Cochrane Affiliate at the Fuld Institute for Evidence-Based Practice where he conducts training in systematic review methods and authors systematic reviews.
