WATER BATH SHAKER
The purpose of a water bath shaker is to steadily shake and mix samples while maintaining a constant temperature. They are used for application such as culturing cells, hybridization, and molecular biology assays.

Laboratory Ultra Deep freezers are important in the laboratory for longer storage of processed samples and isolated microorganisms for further analysis. These freezers are ideal for storage of samples in the clinical, pharmaceutical and molecular Biology laboratories.
Laboratory Deep freezers are important in the laboratory where large samples are handled and need to be frozen before and after analysis. They are crucial in safe storage of reagents, frozen vaccines and other temperature sensitive specimens for research purposes that require freezing temperature up to -20 to -40 degree. These freezers are ideal for routine storage of samples in the clinical, pharmaceutical and molecular Biology laboratories.
The department of Public Health Pharmacology and Toxicology (PHPT) is one of the functional units of the University of Nairobi, under the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. At the department of PHPT we have three thematic areas for research and training: Veterinary Public Health, Pharmacology and Toxicology and Leather Science and Technology. The thematic unit of Veterinary Public Health is where we train both undergraduate and postgraduate students on food safety and hygiene, veterinary epidemiology and economics and one health concepts.
There are a number of Refrigerators in the Department to aid in sample storage.
MRC Laboratory is involved majorly in the analysis of drugs and aflatoxin compounds ( Aflatoxin Total, B1, B2 and M1). The laboratory is heavily equiped with the necessary equipments and machines to aid in the analysis of samples. These includes ElISA Reader, HPLC Machine, ElectroLab Dissolution Tester machine, Fridges and deep freezers.
HPLC is a machine that is used to separate compounds dissolved in a liquid sample and allows qualitative and quantitative analysis of what components and how much of each component are contained in the sample. Therefore, this machine is used in the detection and quantification of analystes in test samples. The Department is actively involved in Research and Consultancy activities in Drug analysis, Aflatoxin compounds and Antibiotics Residues in Food samples using this machine.
The Department of PHPT acquired the Water Purifier to ensure that there is always provision of Type A water (deionized and microorganism free) in the Reserach and Consultancy Laboratories. With the various analysis that are carried out in the Department including, drug and immune-serology processes, there is need to provide a reliable Source of Ultrapure Water.
The ELISA reader is a specialized spectrophotometer—an apparatus for measuring the intensity of light throughout a part of the spectrum—that lets scientists measure the reactions of antigens and antibodies in a solution through enzyme activity.
This is an instrument that is commonly used in the Department for Teaching, Reserach and consultancy work for diagnosis and screening of pathogens of public health concern.
The Department of PHPT is accredited by the Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) and is involved in the analysis of drugs for veterinary use. The Department acquired ElectroLab Dissolution tester Machine to help in drug analysis. Dissolution is the process in which a substance forms a solution. Dissolution testing measures the extent and rate of solution formation from a dosage form, such as tablet, capsule, ointment, etc. The dissolution of a drug is important for its bioavailability and therapeutic effectiveness.
